Music

“God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song.  God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source.  Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises.”—Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship

Join us in singing praises to God through our music ministry!
At St. Mary’s we have a vibrant music ministry that spans across many generations.  There are opportunities for children, teenagers, and adults to participate.

Children’s Choir
Our Children’s Choir is open to all children of the parish in grades 1-8.  Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 5-5:45 PM in Mary, Mother of God Church.  The children lead song at the 9 AM Mass the 4th Sunday of each month, as well as for other special occasions throughout the church year.

Children's Choir Dates
Our first Children's Liturgy will be Sunday, Sept 24th at the 9 AM Mass.

Adult Choir
Our Adult Choir is open to all members of our parish, high school age and older.  The Adult Choir seeks members who have a love for the Lord and a love of singing—those are the only prerequisites!  Reading music notation is not a requirement!  The Adult Choir leads song at the 10:30 AM Mass on Sundays, as well as for Feast Days, and other special occasions throughout the church year.     Adult Choir members need not be able to commit to every Sunday in order to be a part of the choir!  Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:30 -9 PM in Mary, Mother of God Church and warms up on Sundays at 10 AM in the Bulman Center.

Instrumentalists
Our music ministry is also looking for skilled instrumentalists in strings, woodwind, and brass who would like to offer their talents at our Sunday Masses. To get more information or schedule an audition, please contact the music director.

Cantors
At St. Mary’s we are blessed to have a number of volunteer cantors, who lead us in song at every Mass. Cantors are typically members of the Adult Choir who have then been asked by the music director to be a cantor, but being a member of the Adult Choir is not a requirement. Audition is required to be a cantor.

Life Teen Band
The Life Teen Band leads the music at the 5pm Life Teen Mass on Sundays. During the liturgy we use acoustic, electric, and bass guitars, piano, percussion, brass instruments, keyboard, and drums. The band is comprised of teenagers and young adults and we are always open to new members. For more information please contact Lorrie Tomlinson with any questions ltomlin@stmarychurchnj.org

Contemporary Group
Beginning in this New Year, we are looking to put together a new contemporary style music group to provide music at the 12 Noon Mass. If you are interested in being part of this group, please contact our music director, Jessica Kortenhaus.
